Creative Management for Neurodiversity and Chronic Illness

I don’t know what has brought you here, more than likely you also have questions, thoughts, ideas. Some things you may feel certain about others might be less clear. My practice is about holding space for what comes up when we explore what brought you here. I am a neurodivergent, queer, chronically-ill occupational therapist so I bring these lenses to my practice.

My practice sometimes feels like that of a holistic detective (for those that know Dirk Gently) navigating chaos with skills honed through my variety of experiences. I search for opportunities to make small changes that have long term impacts. Sometimes we will work to bring focus to existing skills and strategies other times we will work to support you to introduce new skills and strategies. We will work collaboratively to find the right pace and way of working that feels right.

In our sessions, we’ll explore your personal experiences and current situation in depth. This isn’t about fixing you or making you fit into a mould. It’s about understanding your neurodivergence and chronic illness and using that understanding to create a life where you can truly thrive.

I use an occupational therapy approach to look at all aspects of your life. We’ll explore your daily routines, identify opportunities, and tackle challenges. Together, we’ll develop strategies that honour who you are and help you live a balanced, fulfilling life.

What We Cover

Rest

Rest is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. We’ll work on incorporating rest and recovery into your routine, finding what helps you recharge and feel your best. We will also talk through the different types of rest and the importance of identifying restful activities. This might include mindfulness practices, creative activities, exercise or simply taking time for yourself to relax and unwind.

Coping Strategies

We’ll develop and refine coping strategies that work for you. Whether it’s dealing with sensory overload, managing energy levels, or navigating social situations, you’ll have tools that help you feel more in control.

Confidence & Empowerment

As you learn to manage your neurodivergence and chronic illness more effectively, you’ll likely notice an increase in your confidence and sense of empowerment. This positive shift can impact all areas of your life, from work to personal relationships.

Communication Skills

Effective communication is key to expressing your needs and building supportive relationships. We’ll work on recognising and building on your communication skills so you can advocate for yourself confidently in both personal and professional settings.

Burnout

Burnout can sneak up on anyone, especially when dealing with neurodivergence or chronic illness. We'll focus on recognising the early signs of burnout and implementing strategies to prevent it. We'll also work on recovery techniques, including finding a healthy balance between activity and rest, setting realistic goals, and gradually rebuilding your energy and resilience.

Self-awareness & Acceptance

Through our work together, you'll gain a deeper understanding of yourself. This self-awareness fosters acceptance, helping you to embrace your neurodivergence and chronic illness as integral parts of who you are.
